- The Balkan wars shall rage on until they run out of the ethnic nationalist fuel that puts them forth. The extreme situations always breed extremist views. For a long time Macedonia was spared chauvinist nationalist agenda, but then - for a long time Macedonia avoided open ethnic conflict. While I always argue that the Macedonian government response to the Albanian insurgency is a bit heavy handed, it is still in the realm of the response of a state to an insurgency, and the government likewise represents both the slavic and the albanian Macedonian constituency. So, the radical, separatist Albanian fighters did not yet have their ideological match. Well, they just got it. VMRO regards not only Alexandar the Great as Macedonian, but also his mentor, the philosopher Aristotel. Actually, returning the favor to Greeks calling Macedonia Skopje, VMRO calls Greeks "Athenian people of Arabic origin".
