RACCOON, Inc. (Reconciliation and Culture Cooperative
Network) is seeking dynamic motivated individuals to
serve as Community Outreach Intern for an innovative
reconciliation and cultural program in Queens, New
York.
Primary responsibility will be to support the New York
programs staff in organizing and empowering expatriate
communities from the Balkan who now live in the New
York metropolitan area. The programs focuses on
finding effective, to addressing culturally based
conflicts experienced by the expatriates with the aim
of producing visible results of their collaborative
efforts.
This position is expected to last 3 months.
Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Executive Director,
work to create and implement joint activities and
community projects to reach out to various Balkan
expatriate communities
Implementation of cultural and other group
activities, such as community meetings, "coffee
houses," workshops, and support groups.
Communicate with other organizations serving
with the concerned communities.
Prepare mailings; provide support for workshop
consultants.
Qualifications:
Recent college graduate or college student with
interest in community organizing.
Excellent communication, grammar, and writing
skills.
Must be highly organized and detail-oriented.
Advanced skill in the use of PC applications,
specially word processing, database, and electronic
mail communications programs. Experience with Windows
2000, Word for Windows, Excel, and Access desirable.
Commitment to the RACCOON's vision.
Dependability in meeting regular hours; must be
able to work weekends and evenings as required.
Ability to work effectively with diverse groups
of people including staff, Board, and community
members.
Knowledge of Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian, or
Albanian language a plus.
Compensation:
Community Outreach Intern is expected to work 10-20
hours per week. College students, women and people
with special needs are encouraged to apply.
There is a modest stipend.
